The Prenatal Development of the Pelvis in Korean Fetuses

Abstract
The morphological: and roentgenological observations were done in evaluating the fetal developmental process of the pelvis with 100 fetuses of 9cm to 32cm length(Crown-rump measurement) and the following, reasults were obtained.
1. The broad center of ossification of the ilium in. the- vicipity of the. greater sciatic notch, and& the primary ossification centers of. The pubis and: ischium were first noted at 4th fetal month.
The centers of ossification were spread radially toward- the triradiate zone with the increase of fetal age. At term, the roof of the acetabulum was found, to, consist of, bony streaks.
2. The dimensions of the pelvic breadth and height increased about 3 times during the period. from. the 4th to the 10th fetal month and growth rate of the breadth was higher than that of height. No, differences, were fpundl in pelvic breadth and, growth between male and fewQe sexes,
3. The dimensions of the breadth and height of the iliac ala increased rapidly during the fetal months of 4th tp 10th, and revealed no sexual, differences during the period, of growth.
4. The inclination. of the iliac ala showed maximum degree of the measurement at the 8th fetal month and the angle in male was greater than that in female in all fetal months.
5. The dimensions of the pelvic inlet increased almost equally during the.peripd from 4th to 10th fetal month, and were round form as compared with the adult pelvis.
6. At term, transverse and anteroposterior diameters of lesser pelvis.in.females were greater than that in males in all fetal months.
7. Subpubic angle revealed sexual differences during earlier life of the growing period(4th -fetal month) . and- the angle: in female was greater than that, in , male.
From these measurements, it may be concluded that the growth of the pelvis increased-about. 3 to 4 times during the period-from the 4 th to 10 th fetal month, and inclination of the iliac ala, subpubic angle and diameters ¢¥of outlet of the lesser pelvis revealed sexual differences in all, fetal months.
